A filter bag in hot service fails in one of two ways: the resin softens, or the fabric loses strength. Both are avoidable if the material is chosen against the true peak temperature rather than the average. KOSA stocks high temperature filter bags in aramid, glass fibre, PTFE and stainless steel mesh.

1. Rate against peak, not average
Continuous thermal oxidiser duty is usually well below the peak excursion during a start-up or upset. Rate the media against the peak and the continuous rating together.
2. Bag versus cartridge in hot gas
A bag gives a large area and low pressure drop, which is why bag filters dominate high gas volumes. Cartridges give higher efficiency but cost more pressure drop in the same duct.
3. Watch the closure, not just the media
Aramid is strong but is difficult to sew. High temperature bags are frequently welded or sewn with a different thread; confirm which closure the bag actually has.
4. Account for cooling
A bag that sees hot gas will cool before the dust reaches it. This sometimes lets you step down one temperature grade and save cost.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum temperature of a glass fibre filter bag?
Standard glass fibre grades run to about 240 C continuous. Higher grades and PTFE constructions extend this; give us your peak temperature and dwell time and we will specify the grade.
Can high temperature filter bags handle moisture?
Condensation in hot gas lines is a common failure mode because it attacks the substrate. If your line can condense, specify a moisture-resistant grade.
Are aramid and PTFE bags the same?
No. Aramid is a high-temperature polymer fibre, good to roughly 240 C and strong but hard to sew. PTFE is a surface-media fibre with finer filtration and better chemical resistance, at a higher cost.
